What is Rage City DICS?
Rage City Rollergirls' referees and officials operate under Derby Intelligence Compliance Squad (DICS). Referees and Officials are a key part of all roller derby leagues: without them we are nothing. Referees enforce the official rules and regulate the flow of each game — either on skates or off skates. Repeat: You don't have to skate to be a referee. Referees' duties include working with other referees, both on and off track, learning and teaching the official rules, learning and using hand signals, monitoring the jammers or pack, and interfacing with the statisticians and scoreboard operator.
You also get to hang with the coolest chicks in town, and this cannot be had at any other price!
Other Officials include scorekeepers, statkeepers, scoreboard operators, penalty box timers, and spreadsheet geeks — all of whom work closely with the referees both on and off track. There are international e-mail lists that members and volunteers can join to network with and learn from derby pros worldwide.
Should I Become a Member or a Volunteer?
The answer depends on your level of commitment and available time. Members have to serve on a committee, help with community service projects, and get to vote (see links below).
